What Causes Warts?
When the skin warts appear on ones skin, they in most cases seem to be harmless outgrows, but have you ever asked yourself what causes warts?
In the simplest of definition common warts are infections that affect the top layer of the human skin and that is usually caused by a virus known as human papillomavirus or the HPV. When the virus attacks the top layer of the skin in most cases through a tiny scratch, the emanating effects are the rapid growth of the cells in the outer skin layer resulting to warts.
According to Conway Huang an associate professor of cutaneous laser and dermatologic surgery at the University of Alabama the viral strains causing warts are ubiquitous and each and everyone of us will contact it in one form or the other in his or her lifetime. This occurs mainly through shaking hands, typing on the keyboard and finally turning doorknobs.
There are more than a hundred strains of human pappillomavirus that have been identified today. Scientists as well say that a person will at least be affected by one or more forms of these warts in his or her entire life.
Certain strains of the virus may cause genital warts while others may lead to common warts otherwise known as the skin warts. Simple habits such as small scrape and a times biting of finger nails may lead to development of warts. On the other hand, the nicks as well as cuts from shaving may to smaller extent contribute to the spread of the virus. Indeed this explains why it is more likely to find a man with warts on the beard regions than women.
The biggest question though, that remain to disturb the minds of many is, if everyone is exposed to these virus how comes then that not each and every person is infected with warts. There is no known explanation to this, though doctors believe that certain individuals or persons have “better immune systems” that are capable of fighting the warts than others.
For instance warts are more common in children than in their adult counterparts. This likelihood is so because the immune systems in children haven’t grown strong enough as the immune system of the adults. It is for these results that a number of human pappillomavirus are able to pin down those at their lower ages.
On the other hand, like in many other types of infections where the genetic makeup tend to determine the venerability of an individual to certain attacks, so is thought to be the case with the HPV. Scholars believe that some people will tend to get warts as result of their genetic makeup. This is reason as to why warts infections in some instances tend to run through the family.
If you fail under this category of persons who frequently get skin, it is paramount to stop asking yourself what cause warts but instead to focus on their treatment and prevention. One of such measure that one ought to take is maintaining personal hygiene and ensuring that you wash your hand thoroughly as well as frequently.
